Are you, or someone you know, between the ages of 12-18, and interested in the EMS and Fire Rescue service? Are you looking for a unique volunteer opportunity to meet your school volunteer service hours? If so, the Brunswick Volunteer Ambulance and Rescue Company has a cadet program that may be right for you. Volunteering as a cadet is an amazing opportunity for youth ages 12-18, because you get to learn how to make a REAL difference in your community. Our cadets will get to train side-by-side with career staff of the Frederick County Fire Service, as well as, long time volunteers.
Cadets who commit to the program will gain many benefits. You will be eligible to receive Service-Learning hours for participation in training courses, standbys and collateral duty. Additionally, your future participation can qualify you for college tuition scholarships and reimbursement.
Cadets attend a monthly meeting during which they will participate in drills and scenarios. Besides their meetings, cadets can attend company training and help with fundraising, which is a huge part of our volunteer organization.
Cadets may pursue more in depth Fire/Rescue or EMT training between the ages of 16-18. Fire/Rescue classes available to cadet members include: Emergency Medical Technician-Basic, Firefighter I & II, Hazardous Materials Operations, and Rescue Technician.
Parental permission is required to pursue cadet membership with the company, and certain restrictions apply to participation while school is in session, including curfews and grade point average requirements. Letters of recommendation are strongly encouraged.
